Frozen Waterfalls

Peisey Vallandry’s Nordic ski area, not far from its luxurious catered chalets, thanks to its unique geographical and topographical conditions is out of reach of the sun for many months. The result is that even fast-moving bodies of water freeze solid. If you’ve seen old sepia-toned photos of the Niagara Falls frozen solid due to an over-extended winter, imagine encountering that on a more manageable scale throughout Peisey Vallandry’s Nordic ski area, where at least 10 falls are located (from Nancroix, to La Grotte des Glaces, to Nant Putors).

These frozen waterfalls are a breathtaking and magnificent sight, starkly beautiful yet beckoning to be ‘tamed.’ And, indeed, visitors can ‘tame’ them by scaling the frozen falls. You will have to obtain permission from the local authorities, though, as there is naturally some risk entailed, and some of the waterfalls are very close to the samsung galaxy location of the bearded vulture’s nests.

Once you have explored the resort around the catered chalets on skis, perhaps you\'d like to gain a different vantage? Currently, the area is home to a couple of hundred professional ski instructors, who offer qualified teaching to anyone, of any age. From the plain vanilla kind of skiing on and off piste, to snow shoeing, snowblading, snow boarding, and carving - even children as young as four can learn how to ski while taking part in educational games on the side.
