OTTAWA -- The Ottawa Senators are going to learn to live without Daniel Alfredsson for at least the next little while. Sam Mills Jersey . The Senators captain suffered a concussion after taking a check to the head from New York Rangers forward Wojtek Wolski last Saturday. Wolski was penalized on the play, but was not suspended. Alfredsson spoke about the hit and how hes feeling for the first time Thursday. "Its the first time Ive had a concussion and it feels different," Alfredsson said. "I havent really had any headaches, which is good, but I still have symptoms and I havent done any exercise since Saturday." The 38-year-old is hopeful he can return soon, but was reluctant to make any predictions. "I dont think you can (put a timeline on a return)," Alfredsson said. "At home with the kids if I do too much I get lightheaded, a little dizzy and I need to sit down for a bit and then I feel OK again. Until thats gone Im not going to do anything physically." The Senators were disappointed that Wolski escaped punishment and the explanation from NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan did little to help. Alfredsson said he spoke to Shanahan about the incident by telephone. "He explained their position and the process they went through with not going anywhere further with this and I said I understood," Alfredsson said. "I dont totally agree, but I think no matter what they do theyre going to get (grief). "I thought he maybe could have avoided the whole situation and they think its accidental. But I have no problem with their decision." Alfredsson said understands Shanahans position and added players have to also be held accountable. "Its a fine line where my belief is that the players out there have to responsible for yourself and your own situation. I could have avoided it if Im more aware and I think its always the responsibility of the player," he said. "If we get to the point where players know that if Im in this position no ones going to be able to touch me then youll exploit that and use that, so you have to be aware at all times. "If its deliberate hits to the head, theyve shown that they will take action and theyre not going to get everything right but I think theyre on the right path." Shanahan explained his decision for not suspending Wolski in a video posted on NHL.com. "Wolskis not a dirty player, and has no history of being a dirty player. There are collisions that occur on the ice where, unfortunately, one player sees it just prior," Shanahan said. "On this play here, Wolski has got to get out to his point. You see here, (Marian) Gaborik, the left-winger, has to come all the way to Wolskis point on the right side because Wolskis not there. (Wolski) ran into Alfredsson trying to get there. "Weve seen enough of these now -- and I dont like these -- but seen enough of them where when one player sees (the hit) just prior, he tenses up. And sometimes he even leans in, because hes bracing for an impact. When both guys see it, its two guys tensing up and they bounce off each other and everybodys fine. Its really unfortunate here, when one player doesnt see it and the other guy does." Theres little doubt the Senators will miss having Alfredsson in the lineup. In ten games, he has four goals and seven points, but its his presence on the ice and in the locker-room the team will miss most. "Hes a leader by example and he goes out and plays 100 per cent and gives it everything hes got," defenceman Chris Phillips said. "Hes an offensive guy, but hell go out and hes forechecking, hes hitting, hes doing things he wants everyone else to be doing. "Hes a great leader that way. Hes very important to the success of this team." Senators coach Paul MacLean is hopeful Alfredsson wont be sidelined for too long, but in the interim hes looking for other players to take advantage of the opportunity. "Injuries happen all the time in the course of a season and youre going to lose your best players and other players," MacLean said. "I always like to say its an opportunity for someone to step up and play at a different spot and do a good job for us." The Senators host the Montreal Canadiens on Friday before welcoming the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. Greg Olsen Panthers Jersey . He leaves as a potential first overall pick, and one of the most dynamic, breath-taking players in college football history. Antoine Cason Jersey . The Predators announced that Rinne had been cleared for the next step of his recovery after meeting with doctors earlier Monday. Coach Barry Trotz said a meeting was planned for later Monday to set a weekly plan for Rinne.FIVE QUICK NBA THOUGHTS 1. KYLE LOWRY (Raptors): This is great news for Raps fans. He was in a nice spot with demand from other teams and he cashed in quite well. Bottom line, market value sets the price point and its the cost of doing business. Hes the heart and soul of their team and was an important guy to keep, mission accomplished. This is an important point to consider - the fact that he makes more money doesnt mean hes going to be an even better player than he was last year. Its a tough thing for players who sign big deals; they feel they need to live up to the money and contract. Realistically, if he can provide them what he did last season on a consistent basis and stay healthy the next three to four years - where do I sign up? Good get even if the money is a tad bit high but again its all about right place and right time for Lowry and for the Raptors. Its a deal that makes both good basketball and organizational sense. I love the addition of Patrick Patterson as a restricted free agent to the mix as well. Hes a good young player whose best days lie ahead for him. His perimeter shooting, defence, rebounding and overall toughness are a good piece for this group. Obviously, he ended up being for the Raps what Andrea Bargnani was supposed to be yet at a much more reasonable price. Good deal. Hopefully Greivis Vasquez gets done soon as well. Fingers crossed. Off to a nice start though. Masai Ujiris surely has planned his work and is working his plan. 2. BEN GORDON (Magic): What a Country! I cant believe he got a two-year deal, even if whole money amount isnt guaranteed. Im sure if former Detroit Pistons president, Joe Dumars is walking on a beach this summer thinking about the moves that cost him his job; this guy and Charlie Villaneuvas deals are right at the top of the list. He gets another chance to resuscitate his career with Magic but Im skeptical of this one. 3. SHAUN LIVINGSTON (Warriors): Im happy for him. Hes battled back from major injury in his career and hes not the player he once was in his early Clippers days, but he has reinvented himself annd thats a testament to his work ethic and character. Antoine Cason Womens Jersey. Hes a dependable pro and plays the game hard and right. Hell be a nice mature addition to Coach Steve Kerrs locker room. 4 LeBRON JAMES (Heat): Pat Rileys has to be sweating a bit here. So far no luck attracting the other pieces to compliment the King and hes evaluating his options as he should. He is legitimate by the contract he and the heat negotiated in good faith. Who knows how it will all work out with him and even a guy like Carmelo Anthony. Bottom line, guys want to get paid at the highest level as well as the mid and lower tier players. Your sales pitch as a team beyond winning is still how much cap space do you have and what percentage of it am I getting? 5. NO STATE INCOME TAX: You hear this all the time about states like Texas and Florida, that their free agent pitches have a built in competitive advantage. Heres my question; in cap-centric leagues like the NBA, NHL and NFL, I wonder why this loophole wouldnt be closed. In my opinion, the cap is set up to level the playing field and teams in states that have a distinct advantage with the net income equation have the upper hand. Not sure if this has ever been considered but my thought is based upon this advantage - why dont the leagues set the cap based upon what the money means on the back end in net income per team, so its equal. In 98 per cent of the cases youre dealing with players that are in the highest taxable tax bracket in their state or Country, so why not do the research and base the cap number (which is equal) to the after tax value in each market and even the cap that way. Again, Im not sure if its ever been discussed or if it even makes any sense, Im just thinking out loud. Its probably too complicated an issue to work on but for the life of me I cant tell you why those teams in tax friendly states gain a major advantage. Its an issue for minds much greater than mine (not saying much there!) to figure out. Probably a wasted thought but thats what Im here for! Have a GREAT weekend! cheap nfl jerseys \' \' \'
