Vince Wilfork Super Bowl Jersey Authentic . Not only did the 21-year-old winger get off to a roaring start in his latest audition with the Toronto Maple Leafs, he also received an encouraging vote of confidence from coach Ron Wilson. Kadri snapped the winning goal past Ryan Millers glove in his first game since being recalled from the American Hockey League as the Maple Leafs beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 on Thursday night. The big goal came with some nice words from Wilson. "Hes been pretty supportive and kind of giving me the encouragement to play with the puck," Kadri said. "I think he knows that Ive learned how to recognize danger and when to try and make a play and when not to. After I scored that goal, he just came up to me and he told me Dont change a thing. Youre playing great. "Its nice to get that support for sure." Theres no mystery about what Kadri has to do to prolong his latest stint in the NHL. The former first-round pick has previously had trouble scoring at this level -- the goal was his fourth in 34 career games -- and has also been a liability defensively at times. However, there were no signs of either problem after his most recent 22-game stint in the AHL. "He made plays," said Wilson. "He was good along the wall in our zone and thats what he has to do. He sees the ice and skates, hes got confidence and distributes the puck really well." David Steckel and Phil Kessel also had goals while James Reimer made 40 saves for the Maple Leafs (17-13-4), who moved up to sixth spot in the tight Eastern Conference standings. Jason Pominville and Derek Roy replied for Buffalo (16-15-3). Just as important as Kadris contribution was an improved performance by the Toronto penalty kill, which surrendered one goal on six disadvantages and buckled down during a late penalty. In fact, Buffalo could barely muster a shot as the clock ticked down. "When it really mattered in the last five or 10 minutes of the game, everyone really dug in and they pretty much had nothing," said Reimer, who has made 80 saves in his last two starts. "Thats the kind of group we have. Weve got a team that will do anything to win and has a lot of pride." The victory couldnt have come at a much better time for a Leafs team that had lost seven of nine heading in and was sliding in the standings. Toronto quickly boarded a flight following the win and will visit Long Island on Friday in its final game before Christmas. "Weve got to take the good out of tonight and move forward and try to finish on a good note before the break," said Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf. Buffalo is reeling as it enters the holiday break. The banged-up team can certainly use the time off as leading scorer Thomas Vanek missed the third period with an upper-body injury -- joining six other regulars on the sidelines. "Obviously the couple days rest here is going to be nice to spend time with our families and maybe not think about hockey -- think about other things," said Pominville. "But we wanted to end this on a pretty good note. The effort was there, the results werent and if we keep putting efforts on like this and limit those little brain farts a little bit, were going to get on a roll here." The game began to turn when Torontos little-used fourth line scored at 15:52 of the second period to make it 1-1. Darryl Boyce, Joey Crabb and Steckel caused some havoc in the Sabres zone before Steckel knocked home his sixth of the season from the edge of the crease. The big centre has been weakened by the flu and sat out the last two games. As a result, he didnt mind the infrequent shifts. "I dont have too much energy so it was good by me," said Steckel. "Its always tough for guys who dont play on special teams to get their legs going but its part of the game. As long as youre in it mentally, you should have no issues." Kessel put Toronto ahead less than a minute later and Kadri delivered the winner after Roy had tied the game 2-2. The first-round draft pick from 2009 is intent on sticking around this time and knows hell need to keep contributing to make it happen. So far, so good. "Its definitely a sigh of relief," said Kadri. "Hopefully theres plenty more to come." Notes:@ Fans booed an in-game promo featuring Canadian pop phenom Justin Bieber, who skated with the Leafs on Wednesday ... Mata had already been dropped from Spains squad once this season and with the country blessed with so many playmakers, he was in real danger of being overlooked for the trip to Brazil to defend their title. "Its a very big commitment from Washington. Thats no small thing. Youre talking a seven-year commitment for a very substantial amount of money," said Niskanen, who got married Saturday. NEW YORK -- Paul George and the Pacers were down and just about out, seconds away from consecutive losses. Once a late foul call gave him a chance to tie it, he wasnt letting Indiana lose it in overtime. "I wanted to attack," he said. George made three throws to tie it with 5.2 seconds left in regulation, then scored nine of his season-high 35 points in the extra period as Indiana pulled out a 103-96 victory Wednesday night over the New York Knicks, who dropped their sixth straight at home. New York scored the first 13 points, but this settled into a playoff-type game between teams that met in the post-season last May. And it again went to the Pacers, who bounced back from their first loss after a franchise-record 9-0 start. "Heck of a win for our guys," Indiana coach Frank Vogel said. "A grind-it-out kind of game. Thats sometimes when were at our best. The offence wasnt really flowing but our defence really buckled down." George Hill added 23 points and eight rebounds for the Pacers, who beat the Knicks in six games in last seasons Eastern Conference semifinals. Just as in the clincher of that series, Roy Hibbert had a pivotal block on Carmelo Anthonys drive to the basket. Anthony had 30 points and a season-high 18 rebounds for the Knicks, who looked completely deflated after they couldnt score following the free throws George made when Iman Shumpert was called for fouling him. George then put away the Knicks in overtime, keeping them winless at home since beating Milwaukee on Oct. 30 in their season opener. "I thought we had the game won," Anthony said. "And in overtime, I dont know, they just walked away with it." J.R. Smith had 21 points, and Beno Udrih scored a season-high 19 for the Knicks, including a go-ahead shot with 1:21 left in regulation when he appeared to just throw it at the rim when Anthony couldnt get free. The Knicks protected the lead through a couple of missed 3-pointers by Hill, and Anthony made two free throws for an 89-86 lead with 9.2 seconds left. Shumpert was then called for the foul on George, with replays showing what appeared to be perhaps just a slight touch to Georges arm. The All-Star sank the free throws, and Anthony missed on the other end, and Smith was off on a tip attempt. &quuot; It dont really matter what I think or what happened," Shumpert said. Vince Wilfork Super Bowl Jersey Pink. . "They called the foul." The stunned Knicks walked back to the bench as if they had just lost -- and pretty soon, they had. George followed Hibberts block with a 3-pointer, and answered Anthonys basket with four straight points to put the Pacers in control. Last seasons winner of the Most Improved Player award said he would have deferred in similar situations in the past. "I would have looked to have someone else to be in that position or that role," George said. "This year, this time around I want to be more aggressive." The Knicks were again without injured starters Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton. Amare Stoudemire also didnt play on the second night of the back-to-back. They now go on a four-game road trip, perhaps what they need with their inability to win on their home floor. George was two shy of his career high, bouncing back well from a season-low 12 points on 3-for-14 shooting in a 110-94 loss at Chicago that ended Indianas perfect start. The Knicks jumped to a 13-0 lead while Indiana missed its first seven shots. The Pacers were only 5 for 20 in the first quarter, but one of the makes was Hibberts ugly, banked 3-pointer that beat the buzzer and cut it to 19-14. New York was ahead 42-37 at the half and never trailed by more than four until overtime. The teams were evenly matched last season, only minutes from heading to a Game 7 until Hibberts sensational, momentum-shifting block on Anthonys dunk attempt late in Game 6. Indiana went on to force Miami to seven games in the East finals and is intent on doing better this season. As for the Knicks, they are 3-8, unable to match their strong start last season, certainly not able to keep pace with Indianas blistering start. This was a much better performance from the Knicks, who had been critical of their own effort and were coming off a loss in Detroit a night earlier, but not good enough. Notes: Metta World Peace returned, saying he had fluid drained from his left knee twice in recent weeks. ... Danny Granger is with the Pacers on their trip that concludes Friday at Boston, but Vogel said Granger is still experiencing soreness in his left calf and wont practice until that is gone. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys \' \' \' |
