On Friday morning, I started out at 9:30 for the Federation Square, because there would be the celebration for the Cadel Evans backing home. The 2011 champion of Le Tour de France grew up in Eltham, Melbourne. He graduated from Eltham high school, which was a public school. When I got onto the train with the cheap new balance shoes newly, being the first stop, there were not many passengers. But before long, the train seats became fully taken, some were standing beside the train. I guess there were all going to cheer for Cadel Evans. I got to Federation Square at about 10:20, the celebration was due to start at 12pm, there were some people, but not so many, I soon found a space in the front, though not very close to the stage, it was very near. Looking around, I saw there were special space for the disabled, people were gathering fast to the square. The first time when I came to the square, I was wondering why the road on the square was uneven, with ending up, the other end near the stage down, now I know that they are for spectators to watch the show. I learned that many Melbourne people come to the square to welcome the New Year. I wore a yellow jersey and the New Balance For Mens, which was lent to me by Valdi, because I had thought the square would all be covered with yellow, the color for the champion of Le Tour de France. But actually, about one third of the people were in yellow then. There were staff handing out the yellow banner, so I grabbed one, on one said of which said: “Australia Congratulates Cadel”, on the other side “Yell for Cadel”. I waited in the crowd, taking some pictures, soon I discovered that the Federation Square was full. At around 11am, the host said something about the emergency exit, the first aid, etc, then on the screen appeared Cadel’s performance in the Le Tour de France. When it came to the exciting moment, the crowd would wave the banner, yelling “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie”. The host also claimed Australia to be the most sportive country as well as the sportive Nike Classic Cortez Nylon Mens in the universe. Among the crowd, I saw a father take his daughter, they made the special posters for Cadel, on which were drawings, as well as newspaper cuts. But I also noticed the 2 Tibetan flags, one flag was put under the Australian flag, which I think might be a shame for the separatists!
