The 29th of November 2010 is a watermark in the history of
one club
Jerry
Hughes Jersey , and maybe European football. FC Barcelona beat
their toughest rivals Real Madrid 5-0 and many commentators and fans alike
having watched the fluid, spectacular game at Camp Nou started talking about the
"greatest football match of all time". When what is generally considered the
best team in the world crushes the "second best" in such a fashion it does not
seem like such an unreasonable claim. True, the Barcelona team of the season
201011 might have more talent than most any team in football history, yet the
word that is most descriptive of the success is; tradition.
The club was founded on the 29th of November 1899 by Swiss businessman Hans
Gamper, and won the first major trophy winning the Spanish league in 1929. Even
though the club celebrated many triumphs in decades to come, the tradition that
today's Barca style is rooted in, stems back to the so-called "Dream Team Years"
between 1990 - 1994. This legendary Barca team was naturally led by a legend,
Dutchman Johan Cruyff.
The Dutch legend played for the team from 1973 immediately winning the league
his first season. At his peak Cruyff was maybe the best European player of his
generation and his name regularly features when discussing the all time greats
of football. While he was at the wheel as manager between 1988-1996 the club won
4 league titles and one European cup title. But Brandon
Spikes Jersey , maybe his most enduring legacy is the philosophy of
football that he was instrumental in installing. Cruyff was a product of the 70s
Dutch school of "Total Football". The central idea was to lose the traditional
demarcations between defenders and attackers.
The Dutch model demanded that all players in all positions be equally skilled
with the ball, and always seek to attack spaces the opponent leaves unguarded.
This philosophy was central to the success of the Dutch national team in the
70s, of the Barca dream team on the early 90s and of the Barca we see today,
possibly the best team of all time. Today's coach Josep Guardiola is a true
product of the club's youth academy, La Masia. This place is another key factor
in the club's history, and the backbone of today's exceptional team was formed
here with players like Xavi, Puyol, Iniesta Corey
Graham Jersey , Valdes and even Argentinean Leonel Messi all
received their education here.
Leonel Messi is naturally another essential element for the record breaking
success of the last couple of seasons. The diminutive magician is breaking
records (and opponents self-esteem) on a regular basis, and before reaching his
mid 20s is already being hailed as one of the greatest footballers of all time!
In a team that so much value the collective in an age that emphasizes physique,
organization and strategy, the individual skills of the one player is still
essential. FC Barcelona has always had "exceptionals" Cruyff, Maradona, Ronaldo,
Ronaldinho. And, many of these legends have been on top of their games during
their years at Camp Nou . The FC Barcelona "success formula" is to have a
structure and a style rooted in a strong tradition with years of training and
education of their young talents. This tradition is also what attracts young
talents (like Messi) from all over the world and allows the Bar?a coach to
choose his team from amazing local talent and some of the most promising young
players from other nations.
So there you are Robert
Woods Jersey , "the recipe" for creating a legendary football team;
tradition, collectivism and individual excellence!
