INDIANAPOLIS -- The IndyCar Series will run its final race in Japan on a road course because the egg-shaped oval track at Twin Ring Motegi has too much damage from the March earthquakes. The track, north of Tokyo, is scheduled to host its final IndyCar race on Sept. 18. Series CEO Randy Bernard says track officials will hold the race after "closely monitoring" the damage for months. The track is owned by Mobilityland Corp., a motor unit of Honda. Raised ridges on the 1.5-mile oval tracks surface have made it unusable for the race. That prompted the move to the three-mile natural terrain road course. Track officials announced this year that this will be the final race in Japan. Motegi has hosted IndyCar events since 2003.
