BERLIN -- Borussia Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl scored to lead his team to a 2-1 victory over Schalke in the 140th Ruhr derby and close in on a second successive Bundesliga title Saturday. Dortmund set a new Bundesliga record of 25 games unbeaten as Kehls 63rd-minute winner moved the defending champion eight points ahead of Bayern Munich, which was held to a 0-0 draw by Mainz in the late game. Jefferson Farfan had given Schalke the lead in the ninth minute, but Lukasz Piszczek equalized from a narrow angle nine minutes later and Kehl scored from a corner. "That was a lot of work for everyone involved with a lucky winner," said Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp, whose side beat Bayern 1-0 on Wednesday. "We squeezed out everything we had left. We really had to dig deep." Dortmund only needs one win from its three remaining games to become the first team -- other than Bayern -- to retain the title since it last did so 16 years ago. Kaiserslautern is almost certainly relegated after losing 2-0 at home to Nuremberg, Bayer Leverkusen salvaged a dramatic 3-3 draw with visiting Hertha Berlin, Augsburg won 2-1 at Wolfsburg, and Hamburger SV also claimed an important victory in the fight against relegation with a 1-0 win over Hannover. Bayern needed a win from its 800th Bundesliga game at home to maintain dwindling hopes of catching Dortmund but seemed more concerned with Tuesdays visit of Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal. Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes congratulated Dortmund on a "deserved German title" before kickoff and fielded an unfamiliar lineup with regular starters Franck Ribery, Philipp Lahm, Luiz Gustavo, Toni Kroos and league topscorer Mario Gomez on the bench. Anatoliy Tymoshchuk came closest to scoring when he struck the post in the 43rd, and then Mainz goalkeeper Heinz Mueller denied Ivica Olic in a one on one before the break. Ribery came on for the second half, with Gomez introduced after an hour, but neither was able to inspire the side to a win. "Now we have to concentrate ourselves fully on the game against Madrid," said Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger. Tensions were high in Gelsenkirchen after one of the Schalke bus windows was smashed and pigs blood was found daubed on the Dortmund fans entrance to the sold-out 61,673 capacity stadium. Schalke goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall denied Sven Bender right after the kickoff, but the home side took the lead when Dortmund failed to clear a corner. Farfan tried his luck from the right and his fierce effort took a deflection off Shinji Kagawa beyond his own goalkeeper. Piszczek equalized with a fantastic strike, Unnerstall getting his hand to the ball but unable to prevent it flying inside the left post. Schalke had the better chances for the remainder of an intense first half, with 10 corners to the visitors two. But Dortmunds resilience eventually shone through when Kehl, on as a halftime substitute, netted the winner from close range to end Schalkes unbeaten home record going back to October, when it lost 2-1 to Kaiserslautern. "We matched the defending and new champions," Schalke coach Huub Stevens said. "Its our own fault we werent rewarded for it." Andre Schuerrle and Stefan Kiessling put Leverkusen 2-0 up against Hertha, before Pierre-Michel Lasogga pulled one back in the 62nd. Any hopes of a comeback seemed gone three minutes later, when Hertha captain Levan Kobiashvili was sent off for bringing down Eren Derdiyok in the penalty area. But Thomas Kraft pushed Simon Rolfes penalty attempt onto the post and Derdiyok fired the rebound wide with the goal at his mercy. Then Tunay Torun equalized in the 71st and scored again six minutes later to give Hertha an improbable lead. Kiessling dashed the visitors hopes of climbing above Cologne into the relegation playoff place when he scored his second with a fine header in the 84th. "We showed great morale. We want to take that into the next game against Kaiserslautern," said Hertha coach Otto Rehhagel, whose side remains second last, seven points ahead of Kaiserslautern, which will be relegated Sunday if Cologne avoids defeat in Moenchengladbach. Nuremberg strikers Daniel Didavi and Tomas Pekhart scored to give Kaiserslautern its sixth defeat in a row and leave it without a win in 21 games since that 2-1 victory in Schalke. "Im sorry for the fans," said Kaiserslautern coach Krasimir Balakov, who has overseen five defeats since taking over. South Korea winger Son Heung-Mins 12th-minute effort was enough for Hamburg, while Sebastian Langkamp scored a dramatic 88nd-minute winner for Augsburg as both sides earned some breathing space in their fight against the drop. wholesale jerseys . -- Manu Ginobili talked about wanting to find his rhythm after helping the San Antonio Spurs win yet another road game. wholesale nfl jerseys . After battling to a scoreless first half, the teams traded goals in the first five minutes of the second half to settle for a share of the points. Jordan Lyles won for the first time in two months and the Houston Astros snapped a seven-game losing streak Friday night with a 3-1 victory over the sluggish Mets, giving Tony DeFrancesco his first win as a major league manager. cheap jerseys . A routine popup that somehow dropped between Gold Glovers.Kevin Glenn should be the horse the Stamps ride hard down the stretch! Heres the thing, I dont even think Glenn is playing his best football at this point of the season; hes capable of more. Over the course of his career Glenn is 79-71-1 in 151 starts for a .526 career winning percentage. Since becoming a Stampeder, he has elevated his play and raised his stock around the league. And he continues to climb the ranks in the CFL record books. He needs just 89 more yards to surpass Tom Clements for 10th on the all-time CFL passing yards list. Case in point, he has the best winning percentage over the last 2 seasons among all quarterbacks in the CFL (minimum, 10 starts) CFL Quarterbacks Winning Percentage QB Record Winning Percentage Kevin Glenn 18-7 .720 Travis Lulay 19-8 .704 Darian Durant 17-13 .567 I believe he can take it even higher, maybe even a notch or two, with one simple step. Ill get to that in a bit. Theres been a unique synergy with the stable of quarterbacks in Calgary the last couple of seasons. All three - Glenn, Drew Tate and Bo Levi Mitchell - are certainly capable, and when given the chance have produced and won. Stampeders QBs by start, last two seasons QB Starts Record Kevin Glenn 25 (76 percent) 18-7 Drew Tate 5 (15 percent) 3-2 Bo Levi Mitchell 3 (nine percent) 3-0 Much of that success and harmony can be attributed to Glenns attitude and approach to his role as backup to Tate. Hes shown humility and composure in what could have been an extremely tense environment if he hadnt. By not being selfish or making the situation about himself, he enabled the locker room to remain harmonious and freed up his teammates to just go play footballl, not having to worry about internal controversy.dddddddddddd And with Tate working through several injuries the last two years, it has given Glenn the opportunity to show case his skill set and leadership capabilities. All of Glenns experiences up to this point have allowed him to take that next step. I believe that his success and that of his teams has solidified his beliefs in this approach and morphed Kevin into an elite quarterback. We have seen Glenn light it up with the best in the business over his 13-year career, whether it be in Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, Hamilton or Calgary, but never consistently. We have seen a quarterback transition from average to superior over the last two seasons and I believe his ability to light it up even more can be enhanced by one simple acknowledgment: The acknowledgment from his head coach John Hufnagel that hes the No. 1 guy the rest of the season and into the playoffs. Although Glenn is not seeking or would ever ask for this type of appointment, I believe through the natural course of events it has just come down to this. Hufnagel has got to - if he hasnt already done so - anoint Glenn as the stallion of choice the rest of the season! Hes earned it. The open support and backing from his head coach will free up the veteran QB to explode down the stretch. Imagine Glenn taking the Stamps the distance and winning his first ever Grey Cup. Great situation to be in if you are a Stampeder or a fan. But a precarious one for the coaches, particularly if you are Hufnagel, thinking where that would put his team during the expansion draft. Hufnagel could potentially leave unprotected the Grey Cup winning quarterback and the winningest CFL signal caller over the last two seasons. Now this brings me back to the present and why Hufnagel may be balking at making such an open statement of support for Glenn; hoping things just stay amicable between his quarterbacks and the locker room stays as is. Understandable? Yes. Best case scenario? In my opinion, no. Glenns earned the title; give it to him! With that said Stampeders fans, wear your shades to the remaining games, because things could get crazy bright for your team! Ready Break! cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
