SUNDERLAND, England - Sunderland striker Nicklas Bendtner was arrested last year but released by police without charge following a fight at a hotel. Northumbria police arrested two 23-year-old men, one of whom was Bendtner, on Sept. 13 "to prevent a continued breach of the peace" at a hotel in Gateshead, near Newcastle. They were released after an investigation, police said Thursday. Bendtners press manager, Jesper Lynghus, said "an angry football enthusiast threw himself at Nicklas in a hotel lobby back in September."
