TORONTO -- If this weekends three-game series against the Boston Red Sox was a measuring stick for the Toronto Blue Jays, then their rebuilding project still has a long way to go. The Red Sox completed the sweep of the Blue Jays on Sunday with a 14-1 victory to extend their season-best winning streak to nine games. They outscored the Blue Jays 35-6 in the three games. "Thats a good weekend, you cant count on that very often, that doesnt happen like that all the time," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "Youll take it when you can get it." David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis drove in four runs each and left-hander Jon Lester (9-2) pitched a two-hitter over eight innings as the Red Sox dropped the Blue Jays to 7 1-2 games behind them in the American League East. The Red Sox had four home runs among their 17 hits. Ortiz hit a three-run homer in Bostons six-run fifth, Youkilis hit a two-run homer in the ninth, Dustin Pedroia hit two-run shot in the fifth and Adrian Gonzalez belted a solo home run in the first. The Red Sox (39-26) have the best record in the AL while the Blue Jays (32-34) dropped to two games below .500 for the first time since May 26. "I dont think Ive ever really seen a stretch like these past nine games that weve been playing as far as scoring runs and the way our pitchers have been throwing the ball," Lester said. "Like I said earlier its been fun to watch and hopefully we can keep going." "I think the numbers on the scoreboard indicate that they are swinging the bat as good as they have at any point in time of the year," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "You combine patience, selectivity, power, speed, thats an explosive, deep and very diverse offence and we saw that for 18 innings the last two days." Their pitching was good, too. Lester didnt allow a hit until the fourth when Jose Bautista hit his 21st homer of the season in the fourth to end a 13-game homerless string. Bautista felt it was not that big of a deal. "Not really, Im seriously not making this season out to me hitting home runs," he said. "Im trying to win games and we didnt get it done today, the fact that I got a home run, it could have been a single, it would have been the same difference, we only scored one run today and it wasnt enough." Edwin Encarnacion had Torontos other hit, a single in the fifth. Rookie right-hander Kyle Drabek (4-5) had another difficult outing allowing seven hits, including three home runs, four walks and eight earned runs in four innings. He allowed five runs on two homers in the fifth without getting an out as his earned-run average increased to 5.70. Gonzalez hit his 13th homer of the season with two out in the first inning on 2-0 fastball clocked at 96 miles per hour. He had two RBIs in the game to lead the majors with 60. "I thought he had good stuff," Farrell said of Drabek. "He showed an improved change-up, thought he had a good cutter, good slider, but when he did get behind in the count 2-0 to Gonzalez, 1-0 to Ortiz, a lot of damage was done in those situations. Still lots of pitches thrown against a very patient and very dangerous type of lineup and thats not a good combination particularly with the way they are swinging the bat." Boston needed only one hit to score two runs in the third as Drabek walked a pair to start the inning. Pedroia struck out on a wild pitch that allowed the runners to advance to second and third. Gonzalez grounded out to score one run and Youkilis singled in the other. Bautista ended a drought of 49 homerless at-bats with two out in the fourth. Drabek allowed five runs without retiring a batter in the fifth, two on Pedroias fifth homer of the season and three on Ortizs 17th homer. "Im very frustrated right now," Drabek said. "I couldnt tell you the last real quality game that Ive had. Its frustrating walking people, giving up hits, not giving your team a chance to win. "Im sure other people have gone through stretches like this but for me my mind is fine. Im just getting frustrated that I havent helped the team out lately." Left-hander Luis Perez took over and allowed the sixth run of the inning on singles by Carl Crawford, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Marco Scutaro to put Boston ahead 9-1. The Red Sox scored three in the sixth on a walk to Pedroia and doubles by Youkilis, Ortiz and Saltalamacchia. Youkilis hit his ninth homer of the season with one on in the ninth against Jon Rauch. Farrell, who was pitching coach of the Red Sox for the previous four seasons, watched solid pitching performances over the three-game series as well as impressive hitting. "(Lester) had four pitches for strikes," Farrell said. "It was a constant mix and change of speeds throughout the eight innings he was out there today." Bautista agreed with his manager. "It seems like they were doing everything good," Bautista said. "They were pitching great, they got more than 10 hits in every game, they scored a lot of runs, and every time we seemed to hit a ball that we thought we could get something started they would make a great play on defence."
