•Moyes thought Rooney had gone 'soft'
Rooney was strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the summer, as Chelsea looked to acquire his services, but the striker ultimately remained with the Premier League champions.
The England international's current contract expires in 2015, and Gill, who is now a club director, is tipping him to agree an extension with United if he maintains the level of his recent displays, having scored three goals in his last two appearances.
The Guardian quotes Gill as telling BBC Radio 5 Live: "Without doubt, I'm sure they would look at it. We had an approach to dealing with players' contracts at Manchester United that's stood us in good stead for many years and I'm sure that Ed [Woodward, executive vice-chairman] and David [Moyes, the manager] and the owners will continue with that policy."
Gill, though, refused to be drawn on ex-United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's claim at the end of last season that Rooney had a transfer request rejected KD 6 Shoes Sale Online.
"I'm not going to comment on that situation," he said. "I know you'd like me to say what I know. But I'm not going to. I think it's important to move forward now."
