REGINA - A flag is now flying at Regina city hall to support the first Saskatchewan-born player to compete in the Super Bowl. Punter Jon Ryan will be on the Seattle Seahawks side of the field when they take on the Denver Broncos in the National Football League championship this weekend. Regina Mayor Michael Fougere and members of Ryans family raised the flag in the icy cold this morning. Fougere said its important to support Ryan in the biggest game of his life. Ryan was born in Regina and played college football for the University of Regina Rams. He began his professional career with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. Ryans brother, Steve, and his mother, Barb, were among the family members that helped raise the navy-and-white flag Monday. They will also be among 15 family and friends travelling to MetLife Stadium in the New York area. "I still havent wrapped my head around the fact that (the Seahawks) are going to be there," said Steve Ryan. "Its going to be incredible." He said his brother was well aware of the flag-raising and good wishes being sent his way. Blackburn was the latest addition to an overcrowded Twins training room. "Theyre probably tired of seeing people," Blackburn said. "Theyre shutting the doors pretty soon. I dont think they are too concerned about my back and Im not either. I think it was more of precautionary type move. I dont think its going to be anything serious. I think its going to be a little stiff tomorrow. We wont really know a whole lot until I do wake up." Blackburn said he hurt it while leaping for Alcides Escobars comebacker to end the fourth. "I just reached up quick, a little jump and its almost like how you hyperextend your back," Blackburn said. "I dont think its going to be anything serious. I went out there and threw the fifth. It didnt feel great. I wasnt real comfortable, but obviously its not something very severe if youre able to go out there and pitch." Blackburn gave up two runs on seven hits, throwing 80 pitches.
