Blades of Glory At first, a figure skating comedy might not sound like your cup of tea. But suspend any judgemental attitudes for a moment and you will find your self rolling in the aisles laughing almost as hard as you did watching Borat. In Blades of Glory rival figure skaters rock star bad boy Chazz Michael Michaels (Will Ferrell) and passive perfectionist Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder) go head to head on the ice in the World Championships. They tie for first place and go ballistic in a ridiculous fight that begins on the podium and continues throughout the ice arena, ending with an ice character head being set on fire. They are brought to ice court to be judged for their on ice brawl. Presided over by real life skaters in cameo appearances, Brian Boitano, Dorothy Hamill, Peggy Fleming, and Nancy Kerrigan, with William Daniels as Commissioner Ebbers holding down the center seat, the boys are found to have disgraced their sport and are banned from the men singles competition for the rest of their lives. Jimmy is immediately disowned by his superficial and acquisitive adoptive father (William Fichtner, who is in just about everything these days), discarded on the side of the road, and winds up fitting skating boots on preteens at a sporting goods chain store. Chazz ends up skating as a costumed character in a kiddie ice review spending his time boozing it up with the other costumed characters and going to sex addict 12 step meetings. Chazz gets fired after tossing his cookies during a performance. Inspiration comes in the form of Jimmy stalker who wises them up to a skating loophole. Blades of Glory is heavy with digital effects in all the trick shots, the skate doubles for the actors had the faces of the actors they doubled for added on, and many audience crowd shots were added digitally as well. The supporting cast is in on the joke, even Sasha Cohen can keep a straight face in her cameo appearance. Amy Poehler and Will Arnett as Chazz and Jimmy closest pairs competitors, the brother sister team of Stranz and Fairchild, will stop at nothing to win the competition, going so far as pimping out their younger sister, Katie (Jenna Fischer who plays long suffering Pam Beesly on TV The Office)who they treat as their personal slave. Romany Malco (from Showtime Weeds) plays sidekick to Craig T.
