BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins signed defenceman Dennis Seidenberg to a contract extension on Thursday, rewarding the defencemen that twice helped them reach the Stanley Cup finals with $16 million over the next four years. The team announced the deal between periods of its opening night game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. "Hes been one of our core guys since we got him," general manager Peter Chiarelli told reporters. "D like Dennis are hard to find. The way that he plays, its hard to find." The deal, which has an average cap value of $4 million, would keep Seidenberg in Boston through the 2017-18 season. He said it gives him a no-trade clause for the first 30 months, with a limited no-trade clause over the next 30 months. Chiarelli said this week that signing Seidenberg, who could have become a free agent at the end of the season, was the organizations top priority. "I wanted to be here. They wanted me here. Both sides gave a little bit," Seidenberg said after the Bruins opened with a 3-1 victory over the Lightning. "Im really happy to be here for five years." In 10 NHL seasons, plus one game, Seidenberg has 34 goals and 154 assists. As Zdeno Charas partner on the Bruins No. 1 defensive pairing, Seidenberg helped Boston win the Stanley Cup in 2011. Henrik Sedin had a goal and three assists and Vancouver converted five of six power plays to lift the Canucks to a 6-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. David Booth, Aaron Rome, Daniel Sedin and Dan Hamhuis each added power-play goals and Jannik Hansen had Vancouvers only even-strength score as the Canucks (7-7-1) handed the Blackhawks their first regulation home loss. Michael Frolik and Marcus Kruger scored for Chicago (8-3-3), which went 0-for-5 on the power play and has scored just once in its last 26 chances. The Canucks have been inconsistent this season after advancing to the Stanley Cup finals last spring. Kruger cut it to 3-2 with 4:53 left in the second by plowing to the net and knocking in a rebound. But Hansen replied from the edge of the crease with Vancouvers only even-strength goal 43 seconds later when Crawford was trapped out of position by teammate Bryan Bickell.
