New York, NY (Sports Network) - Alabama and Oregon remained a solid 1-2 punch in the latest Associated Press college football poll after easy victories on Saturday, as the top five remained the same from last week.
Jim Dray Brown Jersey . The Crimson Tide, after a 45-3 rout of Georgia State, received 55 first-place votes and a total of 1,495 points from a nationwide media panel for the second straight week. Oregon, which has scored at least 55 points in each of its five games, picked up the other five No. 1 tallies and a total of 1,424 points. Clemson also cruised to an easy win, 49-14 at Syracuse, and kept the third spot, while Ohio State and Stanford followed to complete the same top five as last week. Ohio State and Stanford each gutted out tough wins Saturday -- the Buckeyes a 40-30 triumph at Northwestern and the Cardinal a 31-28 home victory against Washington. Florida State, after a 63-0 thrashing of then-No. 25 Maryland, moved up two spots to sixth, while Georgia dropped one spot to seventh after surviving with a 34-31 overtime win at Tennessee. Louisville also dipped one spot to eighth despite a 30-7 win at Temple, while Texas A&M and LSU again held the final two spots in the top 10. The second 10 consists of UCLA, Oklahoma, Miami-Florida, South Carolina, Baylor, Washington, Florida, Michigan, Northwestern and Texas Tech. Baylor moved up two spots from 17th after outscoring West Virginia, 73-42. Fresno State, Oklahoma State, Northern Illinois, Virginia Tech and Missouri are the last five teams ranked this week. Northern Illinois, Virginia Tech and Missouri are this weeks newcomers, replacing Arizona State, Ole Miss and Maryland. Northern Illinois and Missouri are each 5-0, while Virginia Techs lone loss came in the season opener against Alabama. Arizona State was 22nd, but fell out after a 37-34 loss to Notre Dame in Arlington, while Ole Miss was 24th and dropped a 30-22 decision at Auburn. Next Saturdays schedule features a trio of ranked matchups. Two, not surprisingly, come from the SEC, as Missouri takes on Georgia between the hedges in Athens and LSU welcomes Florida to Death Valley. Also, Oregon will likely face its stiffest test to date with a visit to Washington in a key Pac-12 North showdown.
Spencer Lanning Orange Jersey . Victoria now has a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series for Canadas senior indoor lacrosse championship. Jeff Shattler had a pair of goals and four assists for the Shamrocks, while Scott Ranger, Karsen Leung and Mitch Jones chipped in as well.
Tashaun Gipson Jersey . "Its time that you look at it," chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel said, setting the stage for a rigorous first day of cross-examination of Pistorius, the double-amputee Olympian charged with premeditated murder for shooting Reeva Steenkamp three times through a toilet door at his home. The post-round handshakes after a practice round at the PGA Championship were replaced by fist bumps and someone suggested that those in the scrum with Canadas best golfer should don surgical masks before chatting. Clearly, whatever Graham DeLaet had, nobody wants to catch. On Saturday night, after struggling through a difficult round at the World Golf Championship Bridgestone Invitational, he went home and started to get sick. "It was pretty bad," said DeLaet, recounting the past 60 hours. "On Sunday, I literally didnt get out of bed all day. . . except to go to the bathroom." For the first time in his professional career he was forced to withdraw mid-tournament. But clearly he wasnt in any shape to tee it up. He was so dehydrated that he needed two IV bags to replenish the fluids. He figures he lost 10 pounds as there was plenty more going out than going in. While he was well enough to play nine holes at Valhalla on Tuesday – and that might be debatable considering the rumpled, fatigued figure that was trudging over the fairways -- he was considering more IVs after he played. "Im a little tired, a little weak," DeLaet said. "Im feeling better physically but its just kind of taken its toll on me a little bit. But I should be ready to go physically, especially with a late tee time Thursday." The illness that felled DeLaet came at an awkward tiime.
Tashaun Gipson Brown Jersey. After a mid-season slow patch in his play, he seemed to find his game at the RBC Canadian Open, tying the course record at Royal Montreal on Friday. He also played well through the first two rounds in Akron. Now hell be playing Valhalla and a major championship with very little groundwork "The preparation will be a little bit different," he said. "Nine holes [Tuesday] and nine holes [Wednesday]. The main thing is just to try and be as physically ready as I can. Theres no real expectations and that might be a good thing." Indeed it could. At the start of this season, DeLaet admitted that last year he built up the majors too much, putting some roadblocks in his own way. That wont be the case here. He will rely heavily on the work of caddie Julien Trudeau who has been on several scouting missions around the course to pick out lines for tee shots and try to grab the nuances of the greens. Going in almost blind wont be entirely new for DeLaet. Hes zipped around courses sight unseen and had some success in the past. "I remember when Ive gone and played Monday qualifiers, playing a course almost blind and end up shooting six or seven under so hopefully thats the case. Were going to do all we can to be ready but the main thing is to try and be healthy by Thursday." Exactly because its unlikely theyll allow him to play with the IV in his arm.
