SOFIA, Bulgaria -- Rosie MacLennan led Canada to its first medal of the 2013 world trampoline and tumbling championships on Friday, winning silver in the womens team trampoline event with Samantha Sendel and Samantha Smith. After qualifying third on Thursday the Toronto threesome all hit solid routines to finish second in the five-team final with 159.995 points. Great Britain won gold with 164.845 points and Belarus took the bronze with a score of 158.450. "Were in an individual sport most of the time but we get to come here as a team, work together as a team and have a lot of fun," said MacLennan. "We were all confident in each other so no matter what happens out there we all have each others backs." MacLennan and Sendel also teamed up to finish first in the synchro qualification and will go for a medal in the final on Saturday. "I got into a little bit of trouble in the compulsory routine but we came back strong with the optional and it turned out to be one of our best," said Sendel, who stepped up as MacLennans new synchro partner this year after veteran Karen Cockburn took time off to start a family. Its been a winning combination for Sendel and MacLennan, the 2012 Olympic gold medal winner in individual trampoline. The pair won gold at the last two World Cup meets before the world championships. In the womens double mini trampoline qualification, 17-year-old Lexi Giesbrecht of Calgary upset a field of 27 competitors to place first with a score of 69.30 points at her first world championship as a senior. Svetlana Balandina of Russia was a close second with 69.00 points and Erin Jauch of the United States was third at 68.600. "I really didnt know what to expect so everything else at this point is a bonus," said Giesbrecht, who competes for a medal on Sunday along with veteran teammate Corissa Boychuk of Airdrie, Alta. "Corissa has done a really great job helping three new athletes move up to the senior team and Ive added a lot of difficulty to my routines," Giesbrecht added. In other events, brothers Kyle and Keegan Soehn of Red Deer, Alta., squeaked into the eighth and final spot of the mens synchro final while Vincent Lavoie of Drummondville, Que., and Katelyn Verschoor of Brantford, Ont., advanced to the mens and womens tumbling finals. Hi Darren, my question is about Kyle Turris. Now that hes signed a contract for two years, whats gonna happen? Are the Coyotes gonna trade him? Cause thats what he asked for! Thanks,Ryan Prince A: The players preference is a trade and Im sure Don Maloney and the Coyotes will consider all offers. However, most teams with interest will want to see Turris play this season before agreeing to a deal some say will have to include a quality prospect forward. Sources close to Turris say the Coyotes have agreed to keep this option open, but there is no time frame in mind - which means a deal could be reached within days or months. In the meantime, Kyle Turris will focus on getting back into game shape, developing in to an impactful player, while at the same time increasing his value and chances of seeking the fresh start he obviously wanted when he orginally turned down this two-year contract and embraced the stalemate. ----- Hey Dregs, If James Reimer is closer to returning, what are the Leafs going to do with Ben Scrivens and Jonas Gustavsson? Do you think theyll carry three goalies? Michelle Kaine A: Michelle, when James Reimer returns, Ben Scrivens will be sent back to the Toronto Marlies. Scrivens has performed well, generally speaking, but he needs more time in the AHL. The same might be said of Jonas Gustavsson, who has been better of late, however Gustavsson would have to clear waivers to go down. As long as Gustavsson continues to play well, he will maintain his role as Reimers back up. There is no sense rushing Ben Scrivens, who appears to have a bright future in the organization. ----- Hey Dregs, I was just wondering about the cap situation in Colorado. Tradition in the Mile High City has always been to spend money, but with roughly $14 million in cap space, have things changed? I understand that during the rebuilding phase you need to cut salary, which they did quite effectively, but whats their excuse now? This is a team that is on the cusp (I may be a little biased being an Avs fan) of being a true contender in the Western Conference and adding a few pieces could push them over the edge. Has ownership put in an internal cap? Or do you expect Greg Sherman and the Avs do make some moves this season to bolster their team? Thanks, Jake TravisRusagonis, New Brunswick A: Jake, the entire hockey world is quietly watching the Avalanche in anticipation of change. The question of who initiates or decides on firings and hirings in Colorado is often asked. As an Avs fan, you know it wasnt that long ago this team was among the big spenders. But, spending to, or near the cap and not realizing the return on the ice grew old for ownership, so the team went young, shaved millions of its payroll and intends on remaining a penny-pinching club until its youth sshows its ready to contend.ddddddddddddnbsp; Avs GM Greg Sherman has made significant trades and continues to manage and operate with what he has. At some point soon, Sherman may be encouraged, or may decide to make a coaching change. If Saccos replacement isnt a veteran, or long-term hire, the speculation will immediately direct our attention to Patrick Roy, perhaps, Claude Lemieux as potential offseason candidates since Colorado rarely goes outside of its family when filling key positions. ----- Hi Darren, Where does the seven-year deal Pekka Rinne recently signed leave Anders Lindback (an RFA after this season)? Rumors swirled a while back that the Devils may be interested in acquiring him as heir apparent to Brodeur and Im thinking perhaps Tampa Bay, Columbus or Calgary might kick the tires? John A. AnthonyBuffalo, NY A: John, the investment the Predators have made in Pekka Rinne (deservedly so) speaks to his role in the long-term success of this franchise. He is among the best and has been rewarded as such in both term and money. No question Rinnes mega-contract impacts Anders Lindback, although in just his second season in the NHL, Lindback would be wise to stay patient. As you point out, Lindback is scheduled to become a restricted free agent in the summer and Nashville intends on re-signing him. Most noteably, Boston and Vancouver have proven the need for two quality goaltenders. Im sure Rask would love to play more thane he does, but he sees his future in Boston and opportunity. The same might be said of Corey Schneider who has been stellar for the Canucks alongside Roberto Luongo. Its hard to believe Vancouver will be able to hold both goalies past this season, as its abundantly obvious Schneider is ready to carry the load of a full-time starter. Lindback isnt there yet and while its possible a team like the Devils makes the Predators an offer they cant refuse, this 66 goalie is still unproven and has much to learn. Why not learn from the best? ----- Hey Darren, Is it just me or has Ovechkin looked way out of place this year? It seems to me if Im the Capitals I would get rid of the coach before my superstar - maybe its time to move on to greener pastures? Jeff Stratford A: Jeff, I wouldnt say Ovechkin has looked out of his place, but hes most definitely lacking the passion weve seen him play with in the past...when hes been at his best. Firing the coach is perceived as the quick and easy fix, but Caps general manager George McPhee remains loyal to Bruce Boudreau and disinterested in letting his players off the hook. At some point, if Ovechkin doesnt find his spark and willingness to attack on a shift by shift basis, a coaching change will be considered. But McPhee may also try and make a trade first to stir things up. Alex Semins name has been tossed around since he was made a healthy scratch earlier this week. There are a couple of options management can consider before dumping its coach. cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '
