HOUSTON -- Leading by a goal after winning the opener of the two-game, aggregate total playoff series, the Houston Dynamo didnt want to rest on their advantage against Philadelphia. They made sure they got a victory and advanced to the conference finals for the fourth time in franchise history. Brian Ching scored at the end of the first half, and the Dynamo defeated the Union 1-0 Thursday night, advancing 3-1 on total scoring after a 2-1 win Sunday at Philadelphia. "We talked about it and obviously they were behind and they were going to try to come out for a push," Houston head coach Dominic Kinnear said. "From the very get-go, we said we couldnt sit on this lead, we had to try and go out and try and increase it and if not, just make sure the other team knows that you are not just going to sit back and try and play." The Dynamo play Sporting Kansas City in the West finals on Sunday in Kansas City for the chance to move on to the MLS Cup for the first time since 2007 when they won their second of back-to-back titles. Houston also advanced to the West finals in 2009, losing at Los Angeles 2-0 in overtime. "Kansas City is extremely tough team," Ching said. "They are playing really tough right now. They are one of the best teams in the league. They are playing at home, which will be extremely tough for us. Saying that, we are a team on a roll. We are a team that is defensively seeming to find our rhythm. We are scoring goals, too." The Dynamo have hit their stride at the right time, winning four straight and six of seven, and extending their unbeaten streak to eight games. "Three months ago, if you were to tell us that we would be at this point with a chance to move on to the final, we would probably look at you with a little bit of disbelief," Ching said. "Over the last three months, credit to (Kinnear) and all the guys in the locker room maturing. Its pretty special. Hopefully, we can continue on this run. Id love to see this team make it to the final." Ching scored in first half stoppage time, taking a free kick by Brad Davis, who led the league in assists this season with 16 and had two during the series, and heading it in from the penalty spot and into the upper right corner, just inside the far post. "Hes been good," Davis said of Ching. "Its been obvious hes scored in the past on them (set pieces). Were going to get our few a game and hopefully, we can capitalize on them, and tonight, we did again. It was a great header by Brian. He got a good run at it, and hes good at the end of it." Houston nearly scored in the 47th minute as Geoff Cameron weakly hit a shot from the penalty area to Philadelphia goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon. Calen Carr had a chance in the 54th minute, getting behind the Union defence, but had his right-footed shot from 10 yards out in the middle was stopped by Mondrago with a kick save. Philadelphia missed a chance to tie the score in the 59th minute as Veljko Paunovics shot from outside the upper right box was saved by Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall, who had five saves after stopping 10 shots in the first game. Philadelphia, who couldnt get much going against Houston, only earned three wins in their final 16 games and didnt score in the final 173 minutes of the two-leg series and dropped its third straight game to end the season. "I believe that the first half was very good, very fluid," Union coach Peter Nowak said. "We have a couple of chances, a couple of shots from distance and basically didnt give anything to Houston. It could have been a different game." Off a corner kick in the 64th minute, Hall saved two shots by Paunovic from the far post. "Thats been our game for a long time," Hall said. "Now, its coming together. We are finding our form and trying to come from a couple different angles to play a complete game." cheap jerseys china . Neither does general manager David Poile, who says he has a "comfortable" working relationship with his coach.SAN FRANCISCO -- Linebacker Aldon Smith will miss Thursday nights game at St. Louis and perhaps sit out longer, San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York said Sunday. Smith will seek treatment following his arrest Friday for suspicion of driving under the influence and marijuana possession. After Sundays loss to the Colts, Smith apologized and acknowledged he will get help, but didnt field questions. "First off, I wanted to apologize to the team, the organization, my family and everybody I let down," he said. "I also wanted to let it be known that this is a problem and its something that I will get fixed, and that Ill do everything in my power to make sure that this never happens again. I also wanted to let everybody know that once again Im sorry." Smith started for San Francisco and had five tackles in a 27-7 loss, two days after he was arrested and jailed early Friday morning after his truck hit a tree. York defended the organizations decision to play Smith. "Our opinion is if youre sitting someone down and paying them to sit down when theyre going to seek treatment in the future, we didnt feel like that was an appropriate punishment," he said. "Were not trying to circumvent what the NFL will do. This is about making sure that Aldon has the opportunity to work on something, to get better, and he knows that he has our support and hopefully he has everybodys support in something that has been very difficult." York expects Smith to get help on his own, but the 49ers wont interfere. "I think Aldon is going to take steps on his own," York said. Smith is a key pass rusher and sacks leader for the 49ers, and coach Jim Harbaugh had said leading up to Sunday that the NFL would decide how to puniish the third-year pro, who turns 24 Wednesday.dddddddddddd He had a franchise-record 19 1/2 sacks last season, second in the NFL. When asked about Smith getting help, Harbaugh said "theres a process there well apprise you of at the appropriate time." Smith has had a rash of run-ins with the law that raised questions about his character. "It was disappointing, but we support him, and knowing that what he wants to do is not a one-day fix, its a long-term fix for Aldon," York said. "And Aldon is willing to fight for himself and try to make this right, and I will see it through, and I will support him. I will take any shots that anybody wants to direct at the organization. They can direct at me, and I will support Aldon as long as he is willing to work at this and fight to get better." Earlier this month, a lawsuit was filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court naming Smith by a Northern California man who said he was shot at a party at Smiths house on June 29, 2012. The players charged a $10 admission and $5 per drink, the lawsuit said. Smith and former 49ers tight end Delanie Walker, 29 were allegedly intoxicated on Smiths balcony when they later fired gunshots in the air while trying to end the party, the lawsuit said. Before the 2012 home opener last September, Smith was the passenger in a car accident in Santa Clara County in which the driver swerved to avoid hitting a deer. Smith sustained a cut beneath his right eyebrow. He apologized and insisted he had grown up. The 49ers selected Smith seventh overall in the first round of the 2011 draft out of Missouri. He became an instant impact player like many of the others chosen by general manager Trent Baalke in the past three drafts. cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
