(Sports Network) - The Diamondbacks blasted Marlins pitching in taking last nights opener of a three-game series to run their winning streak to seven straight games. Arizona may find runs harder to come by tonight as Florida sends the streaking Anibal Sanchez to the mound at Chase Field. Sanchez draws the start tonight following his best performance of the season last time out. On Thursday in San Francisco, the right-hander threw his third career shutout, a five-hitter, to beat the Giants, 1-0. He also walked two and struck out eight for his fifth career complete game and second this season. He was kind of in that zone. He was able to get ahead with four different pitches, Marlins catcher John Buck said of Sanchez. The 27-year-old picked up his fourth straight winning decision and hasnt lost since April 10. Sanchez is 4-1 with a 2.60 earned run average in 10 starts this year and 1-1 with a 4.19 ERA in three career outings versus Arizona. The Diamondbacks, though, have to feel good with their starter tonight in Ian Kennedy, who has won five decisions in a row since his lone loss of the season on April 13, including a career-best three straight winning starts. The right-hander extended that streak on Wednesday in Colorado, allowing a run on seven hits over eight innings of a 2-1 triumph. Kennedy also got a little help in the field when outfielder Chris Young got his glove over the fence to haul in a potential game-tying homer in the eighth inning. I dont remember exactly what I said, Kennedy said. But that was one of the best catches Ive ever seen. I probably owe him a dinner for that. Kennedy, 26, is 6-1 with a 3.01 ERA in 11 starts this year and will face the Marlins for the second time in his career. The first outing came on July 10 of last year and he picked up a victory after yielding two runs over 5 1/3 innings. Arizona will hope to back Kennedy up tonight like it did Joe Saunders in Mondays opener. Justin Upton turned in the second five-hit game of his career, homering and driving in three runs, while Kelly Johnson homered twice and also knocked in three runs to help Arizona to its 15th victory in 17 games. The Diamondbacks have also won seven straight for the first time since an eight-game run from April 4-12, 2008. Its going really well, said Johnson, who recorded his seventh career multi- homer game. Miguel Montero also hit a home run and drove in five runs in the 19-hit rout, and Saunders gave up four runs over six innings to earn the win and keep the D-Backs a half-game ahead of the Giants for first place in the National League West. Gaby Sanchez homered and drove in three runs for the Marlins, who have lost three of four and are 4-3 on a nine-game road trip that began with a three- game sweep of the Giants.
