Tour de France 2013: Froome adds to lead with time trial triumph Race leader Chris Froome produced a Nike Mens LunarGlide 4 time trial to win Stage 17 of the Tour de France on Wednesday. Froome (Team Sky) won his third stage win of the Tour with an excellent effort in the 32-kilometer time trial from Embrun to Chorges, which featured two category two climbs. The Brit finished strongly to edge Spaniard Alberto Contador (Saxo-Tinkoff) by nine seconds, while Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) was a further second adrift in third. Froome has extended his general classification lead over Contador to four minutes, 34 seconds, while Czech Roman Kreuziger (Saxo-Tinkoff) is a further 17 seconds back. Vacansoleil rider Lieuwe Westra Adidas Predator LZ set the early pace after an excellent finish downhill and it would be some time until his time was topped. Euskaltel's Jon Izaguirre (53:58) swapped to a time trial bike during the stage and gained late ground, and it proved to be the tactic to follow, with Froome gaining particularly from the move to swap cycles. BMC's Tejay van Garderen (53:24) was the next to take the lead but his time was smashed by Movistar's Alejandro Valverde (52:03), and then topped by Rodriguez (51:43). Peraud fell on his injured collarbone with just two kilometers remaining in his time trial, leading to his withdrawal from the race, while Contador (51:42) performed excellently to claim a slender lead of less than one second. But Froome, as he has done for the majority of the race, had the last laugh as he stormed home to post another victory.
