It almost seems unfair to critique Giancarlo Stanton's season. The 23-year-old slugger was saddled with a supporting cast that rivaled the Bad News Bears, and a hamstring injury suffered at the end of April sidelined him for five weeks.
Stanton has disappointed fantasy owners this year, though it's not entirely his fault.His average (.251) and power (.226 ISO) are well down from last year's Lebron On Sale Online.290 and .318 marks, and, thus his counting stats have also fallen, even if you pro-rate them to account for the time missed.
Stanton has made some progress, most noticeably in his walk rate (15.1 percent, up from 9.2). His current mark would rank second to only Joey Votto if he had enough plate appearances to qualify, and it's helped him actually improve his OBP (.368, up from .361). It's possible that he's simply seeing fewer pitches to hit because of the lack of protection in Miami's lineup, but at least he's not hacking at every pitch because he's frustrated. Stanton has also reduced his K-rate (26.2 percent, down from 28 2013 Hyperdunk Low Sale Online.5), which is nice to see even if it's just a marginal improvement.
After a season like this, Stanton won't be as high on fantasy radars next year. It's a fair adjustment, but he's still one of the most prodigious power hitters ever, and even if the Marlins are terrible again, it's not crazy to expect between 40-50 homers. Runs and RBIs will follow. His average might never approach .290 again, but .265-.275 is probably where it will settle most years at this point in his career.
Stanton still has big-time potential, and it would be nice to see him finish the season strong and carry that momentum into next year. He'll have eight chances next week, as the Marlins and Mets both play eight games thanks to a doubleheader next Saturday.
The Braves, Cubs, Dodgers, Pirates, Giants and Nationals are also scheduled to play every day in the NL, while the Orioles, Indians, White Sox, Angels, Twins and Yankees will play seven in the AL.
Every other team is scheduled to play six games.

The Pirates gain a DH for three games at the beginning of the week when they travel to Texas, and the Mariners lose a DH for three games next week in St. Louis.
